VILLAGE OF COLFAX
WATER TREATMENT FILTER SAND REPLACEMENT PROJECT
Dear Resident,
Please be advised that the Village of Colfax Water Treatment Filter Sand Replacement Project will begin on August 22, 2022 and is expected to take approximately 5-6 weeks to complete.
In accordance with the recommendations of the October 2020 Colfax Water Infrastructure Assessment, the Villageβs Engineer, Farnsworth Group, Inc., stated that the sand utilized at the Villageβs Water Treatment Plant has exceeded it useful life and should be replaced. The filter sand is utilized daily to remove natural occurring iron and manganese present in the Villageβs raw water supply wells and requires replacement every 7-10 years. While the filter is empty, the Village will also have the vessel repainted for longevity.
The Village and Engineers have coordinated the project with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and have included the IEPA Lead Informational Notice which is required anytime disturbance of the water system occurs. While the sand replacement project is ongoing, the Village will continue to provide safe treated water but residents may occasionally experience discolored water or notice a difference in taste.
If you have any questions regarding the upcoming project, please send them to the attention of Mrs. Portia Vandegraft, Village Clerk at Village Hall, 307 North Harrison, Colfax, IL 61728 or [email protected].
Very truly yours,
Mayor Larry Dodds
