Back To News Listing Updated Regulations for Garbage/Bulk Pick-up Beginning July 1, 2025 | Monday, June 23, 2025
Updated Regulations for Trash, Discarding of Large Bulk Items, Landscape Waste and Leaves
1. Garbage pick-up is every Monday, except on certain holidays. The 2025 Colfax Recycling and Trash Collection Calendar is available at the Village Office or on the Colfax Facebook page. Residents should put their garbage barrels out on Sunday night since they start picking up early in the morning.
2. If items to be discarded can be placed in the blue garbage cans, then do so. Bags can also be placed in the dumpster at the Village Office. Landscape waste should not be put in a blue garbage can.
3. Recycle barrels should be placed by the street on every other Tuesday for pick-up on Wednesday. Please refer to the posted schedule.
4. Landscape waste as a result of a storm should be placed along the street as soon as possible to be picked up by the Village personnel.
5. HARD LANDSCAPE WASTE CAN NO LONGER BE DISPOSED OF AT THE LANDSCAPE DUMP. (CONCRETE, ASPHALT, BRICKS AND PAVERS)
6. Landscape waste resulting from trimming or removing trees should be hauled to the landscape dump at the east end of Fifer Street. Please do not block the driveway; put the landscape waste as close to the pile as possible. The village will not pick up this type of landscape waste. If you are unable to haul it to the landscape dump, please contact the Village Office at (309) 723-3261 to request a quote for removal of your trimmings or trees. If you can anticipate the date for your task to be completed, please share that with the Village Clerk.
7. Large items like appliances or televisions should be placed along the street only on Saturday or Sunday before regular weekly garbage pick-up. Please do not place large items or oversized garbage out before the weekend. The large items should be set out separately from the blue garbage barrel and the landscape materials.
8. As most of you know, the Village of Colfax has been picking up oversized items and landscape waste for several years. However, recently, there have been several examples where this service has been abused.

9. There is no charge for one bucket load and/or trip per address per month. Additional buckets will be $50.00 for each additional bucket for pick-up. If you have too much for one bucket load, you may bring the remainder to the dumpster by the Village Office. Please do not let the piles remain after Monday. If you have the means to bring it to the Village dumpster, that will help.
10. The Colfax Restoration Project and the Village of Colfax are making a concerted effort to have out town present a good appearance to our visitors, our neighbors and overall. This means we all must do our part to maintain our properties by eliminating trash and unwanted items, maintaining the grass and weeds and reducing the
β€œjunky look.” Also help by putting garbage and recycling barrels off the street to an area that reduces visibility but makes them easy to use.
11. Old tires cannot be discarded anywhere in the Village of Colfax. You may pay a small fee to have them discarded at Spencer’s in Cooksville.
12. Any house that is being cleaned because of bank repossession, process of flipping or rental property cleanouts will not be picked up by the Village personnel.
You may contact the Village Office (309) 723-3261 to arrange to rent a dumpster from Republic Services at a discounted rate. Anyone who simply piles the clean out by the street will be fined $750.00.
